News

Dear members,

It is a hard time for our association. We are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Prof. Dr. Ir. Eric Backer, honorary member of the ETV. He passed on the 14th of April, aged 79, in his home town of Diepenheim.

We as a board are also devestated by this news - only a few months ago, we had the honor to meet the getleman Backer and his wife, during a lovely dinner at the house of the gentlemen Verbruggen in Delft. He was a man who cared deeply about the faculty, showed a lot of interest in the ETV and always had an interesting story to tell.

The gentlemen Backer was an honorary member since 1991, and at the moment of his inauguration as honorary member, he was the youngest honorary member of the ETV. Not only during his time as honorary member was he very active with the ETV, but before this period he also actively helped the ETV. He believed strongly in the importance of networking, especially between students and professors.

To honor the gentlemen Backer, and to remember all the things he has done for our association, the board announces a period of mourning until Friday the 24th of April. All events planned in this period will be moved to another date.

I hope to hereby have informed you sufficiently,

Our deepest condolences,

Shea Haggerty

President of the Electrotechnische Vereeniging

Dear Members,

Due to the corona virus the ETV is closed until further notice. This means the book sales of the fourth quarter cannot take place at the ETV desk. To make sure everybody can still buy their books, the ETV has made an agreement with the VSSD (the student union of Delft). The VSSD will sell the books for electrical engineering.

The VSSD is located at Leeghwaterstraat 42 in Delft, very close to EEMCS. The books will be available at the start of Q4. If you do not need your books right away, I kindly ask you to wait a few days with buying the books. This helps prevent long lines the first few days of the quarter,  so the risk of infecting each other becomes smaller. The VSSD gives a discount to ETV members, if they ask to proof that you’re a member you can show that you can log in on our website.

I wish you all a lot of luck with studying and making exams from home!

With kind regards,

Joos Vrijdag

Commissioner of Education

Dear members,

It saddens us deeply to inform you about the passing of Em. Prof. Ir. Jan de Kroes, honorary chairman of the Electrotechnische Vereeniging. He passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening, the 31st of March. He reached the age of 96 years old.

The gentleman De Kroes has meant a lot to the ETV since he was named honorary chairman in 1990. He for instance played a big role in helping the ETV organize the study tour to Russia. To honor him, and everything he has done for our association, we as a board announce a period of mourning up until Friday the 17th of April. All activities will be cancelled during this time.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.

I hope to have informed you sufficiently.

Dear members,

During these times of isolation, it is difficult not to get bored. Because it's no longer possible to get your daily dose of coffee at the Board room, familiar faces easily start to fade. If this is the case, we've got some good news for you: the ETV domain will continue digitally!

We've created a Discord server so all small talk can continue there. The Discord, called the "Digitale BK", contains the following channels:

- A members channel

- Announcements

- Questions for the Board

- Questions about education

To join the Discord server, please contact one of the Board members. For all other questions, we can of course still be contacted the regular way.

Not only will the ETV continue digitally, but we'll also be hosting some online activities. The first one will take place tonight at 20:30. Come join us for our first digital Pub Quiz! The Pub Quiz will, of course, be BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze).

Also, this Thursday, a board game night will be held with the IDEA League. The IDEA League consists of European Technical Universities, so cames can be played with people from Zürich, Aachen, and Paris. Details regarding this event will follow.

Come join us digitally, and we'll see you tonight!

On behalf of the 148th Board,

Sam Aanhane

Secretary

Dear members,

You may have noticed that there is a General Assembly planned for this Thursday. Because of the situation regarding the corona virus, and the measures taken because of it, it is not possible for us to organize a General Assembly as we know it. Thats why, we have come to the conclusion to set up an online General Assembly, Thursday at 12:00. At 12:00, we will share a link in the group app so that you can join the assembly. If you are not in an ETV year-group chat, e-mail the board and we will send you a link!

If you wish to join, you have to mute yourself. If you have a question or a comment, you may ask/state this in the chat-box, and you will be given a turn to ask your question.

The Yearbook Committee will be installed, and they will present their budget plan. The budget plan is available for inspection, just e-mail the board if you wish to see it. The budget plan will be presented during the General Assembly in a fitted manner.

We hope to 'see' you all on Thursday!

Kind regards,

Shea Haggerty

Dear members,

In response to the recent developments in the COVID-19 virus in The Netherlands, the faculty and thus the ETV, have had to make measures to ensure everyones safety. We as the ETV have therefore decided to conform with the following measures until the 6st of April:

  • The board room will be closed for members. You can reach the board at all times on their cell phone, or their e-mail.
  • Meetings with committee members, the board of other members of the ETV have to take place at home or digitally. If a member needs to enter/use the ETV domain with absolute necessity, the board needs to be consulted. Only with explicit permission of a board member, the member is allowed to enter ETV domain.
  • All ETV activities up until the 1st of June are cancelled.
  • We advise all of our members to stay home, and only come to the faculty for necessary affairs.

We believe that these measures are in line with the advice given by the RIVM and the  advice from the dean of our faculty. Cancelling the events which our committee members worked hard for is extremely saddening,  but the health and wellbeing of our members is most important to us. We are keeping a close eye on changes in the situation and whatever advice the TU Delft or government issues. We will inform you, may changes in these developments occur.

Hoping to have informed you sufficiently,

Shea Haggerty

President of the Electrotechnische Vereeniging

Dear members,

With regards to the latest update surrounding the Corona Virus are we sad to announce that the ETV her biggest event of the year, the EEMCS Recruitment Days, has been canceled. Based on the latest advice on the RIVM about events have we deemed it irresponsible to let the Career event continue in its current form. In order to guarantee the well being of all participants, measures sadly have to be taken.

Expecting to have informed you sufficiently,

On behalf of the 148th Board of study association the "Electrotechnische Vereeniging",

Sam Aanhane

Secretary

Dear members,

The past few months, the Study Tour Committee has been very involved in planning the trip to America. Sadly, due to circumstances, we received less registrations than we hoped for. Due to this, the decision was made to postpone the Study Tour until next year. The organization of the trip will be picked up again after the summer.

I hope to have informed you all suffectiently,

Kind regards,
